The European History – 60 chronic joint progress
The 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome offers a good opportunity to reflect on the future of the EU, gazing at the future base, and evaluating the past decades. At a time when it seems to dispute some of the fundamental principles that have hitherto been the basis of democratic countries and advanced economies, It is even more important to remember the original objectives of European integration.
The European path is a history of peace, democracy, solidarity and freedom, and prosperity, equality, welfare and sustainability. At this critical historical juncture it is worth remembering the principles that unite us as Europeans, and our joint achievements.
Undoubtedly there have been difficulties, and future challenges can often seem insurmountable. For those reasons, a dialog period, reflection and consultation is necessary. An account of European achievements is perhaps appropriate starting point.
This publication has been prepared by the European Policy Center Strategy. Its purpose is to contribute to the European Commission's preparations for the White Paper on the future of Europe and for the Rome summit, in order to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome.
